Epiduo

What is Epiduo?

2Those who struggle with acne often find themselves wondering, why me? There’s really no reason why a certain person gets acne when another doesn’t except for their genes and hormones. Lucky for those that do struggle with acne there are hundreds of acne treatments, the trick is finding which one will be right for you. Epiduo is a doctor-prescribed acne treatment and is typically for those with moderate to severe acne. Epiduo contains two active ingredients called adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. Both of these ingredients can often be found in acne treatments because of their reputation of being great acne fighting tools.

What is benzoyl peroxide?

Propionibacteria acnes are the major cause of breakouts, and these bacterias cannot thrive in an oxygen-rich area.  Benzoyl peroxide reduces the number of these P. acnes by introducing oxygen into your pores, thus benzoyl peroxide reducing the number of breakouts you experience. Expect to experience dryness on the face, as well as flaking, redness, burning, irritation, or a rash. These are extremely common, and it would be highly unlikely to not experience at least one of these. These symptoms typically go away after a week or so, but if it persists or gets worse you should contact your doctor. One should also stay away from too much sun, whether real or artificial, as skin may become sensitive while taking this product. Benzoyl peroxide may bleach certain fabrics or hair so try and keep it away from these things.

What is adapalene?

While benzoyl peroxide stops the cause of breakouts, adapalene prevents breakouts before they start. It stops the acne-forming bacterias from forming under the skin by clearing out clogged pores. When you are taking adapalene expect your acne to get worse before it gets better. The majority of users experience a rash, redness, dryness, or flaking, but within a few weeks see these side effects go away just before they experience clearer skin. A small amount of users find that they have a rash and it doesn’t get better, or once it goes away their skin is just at the point it was at before starting the medication. A number of customers taking adapalene products don’t go the full 8-12 weeks because the side effects are too severe and they have to stop. Other users find they didn’t see results for up to 6 months.

How often should I take Epiduo?

Epiduo only needs to be taken once a day, and only a pea-sized amount of this product needs to be used. It is best to do so after your morning or afternoon routine, so as not to forget a dose, but it can be taken at any time of day, regardless of what time you usually take it.

How much does Epiduo cost?

Prices will vary because it is a prescription medication. Those whose insurance will cover it may pay anywhere from $20-$50, and for those without insurance or whose insurance won’t cover it will be looking at hundreds of dollars. Even those that paid somewhere are $35 said it was overpriced and not worth that small amount.

Conclusion

This product appears to be overpriced for a product that will cause that many side effects, that takes too long to see results, and might not cause any results in the first place. There are many other acne treatments out there that will most likely show the same results, if not better, but for half the price.
